God is Good. Jake had a great day today. It is amazing how much work he is willing to do to get better. This morning seemed like every other day when the physical thearapist came in to help him into a chair, but before he got to sit in his favorite chair he had to earn it. The thearapist had him stand from the bed to the chair, yeah well he's done that before right, but then he asked him to lift his left foot. I felt so proud to see him do that with very little trouble. He was able to lift his right foot too (with a little more difficulty). He would then get to sit for about a minute then he would repeat the process. He did this a total of 5 times, but the last time he was asked to step forward with his left foot he extended it about 18 inches (maybe not quite that far, I am not good with measurements). I could not have been more proud than a mother watching her child take their first steps. But that is not what brought me to tears.
His breathing tube was being changed to a smaller tube. In the process the doctor asked him to say hello, and you guessed it he did, a little slurred but hello just the same. Then the doctor asked him to say Hi Mom and slowly he repeated Hi Mom. It was the sweetest sound I have ever heard.
Jake is improving by leaps and bounds and what looks like the start of a very ordinary day God turns it to an extraodinary day.
Jeremiah leaves this afternoon for Juneau. Josie leaves for Homer for a swim meet. They should both be back on Saturday.
We love all of you.
Ant.
