Just wanted to update one more time. I thought most of you would like to hear that Jake finally got to eat a little Debbie. He was waiting for his snack, it was 5 minutes past when they typically come so I asked if he wanted a Little Debbie, he jumped on the opportunity. Then Grandma went downstairs and bought him an ice cream bar. He enjoyed that too, no sooner than he finished the snack lady came in. We told him not to say anything to the nurses about the extra snacks so he ordered a sandwich then waited for her to leave and said "thank you Grandma".
I wanted to let you know why he needs the different types of therapy. The way it was explained to me is he needs the speech therapy so that he can organize his thoughts. She will quiz him most days on the date, and year, and day of the week. He has gotten to where he consistently knows these answers. She will ask him to name 5 vegetables, or fruits, or pieces of clothing. She said that all of the words are just rambling around in his head and he needs to learn to file them away so that he will remember the right word when he is talking.
He needs the occupational therapy to relearn the daily tasks of life (ie how to shower, dress, or groom) She will help him get ready in the morning and then will work with him in the afternoon with other tasks such as putting small pegs into a peg board, or playing games. They fine tune the fine motor skills.
Most of you probably know what a physical therapist does. He is helping Jake with balance and walking. Jake really enjoys this therapy more than the other two. Most of the time the physical therapist has to remind him not to take such big steps. He said that this is unusual because normally he reminds patients to take bigger steps instead of smaller ones. I think of him as working on the bigger motor skills.
Most days Jake works with each therapist for a 1/2 hour session in the morning or afternoon, then an hour session in the morning or afternoon. This is tiring, but Jake knows that through this hard work he is going to get better faster.
He loves all of you and he has enjoyed going down and reading the blog's comments. I think this is going to be a daily trip to the computer, he even got to have a stroll outside tonight this too is very tiring so he should rest well tonight.
I just wanted to explain some of the therapy so that everyone might understand this better. He is still "sick" but is so much better everyday that one Dr. said that he is opptimistic to a full recovery, that was already what I am expecting. Jake is so lucky to have such an awesome support group. He is lucky to have so many folks who care for him and this has taught me to see what is important in our lives and that is our realationships with one another, you all mean so much to me.
Love to all
Ant.

Jake,
We are so proud of your progress. Caleb and Luke are looking forward to another fun visit to the hospital!
Love & Little Debbies,
Yea for all of you. What an outstanding group ya'll make. I'm thinking there is a great book about all of this and then maybe a movie. Maybe "they" will pick you to play yourself....actually ya'll could all play yourselves. O yea! Keep up the hard work. Having this blog site is priceless and everyone who has kept it updated is very appreciated. We love you all.
Hi Jake
Keep up the good work. You and Michael will need to exchange therapy notes. He yells at the therapist if he doesn't want to do what they request. Doesn't get him anywhere. Since that doesn't work for him you will need to try something different.
Miss your smiling face.
Hello Coach Collins!
